Breast Augmentation Options Expanding

Women considering breast augmentation surgery have long had to choose between the cosmetically optimum results of silicone implants and the safer, peace-of-mind option of saline implants.

Although silicone breast implants have in fact been approved as meeting safety and health requirements by the Food and Drug Administration, the use of these implants has garnered a reputation for having dangerous, and even fatal, side effects. Because of this, the majority of breast augmentation clients choose saline implants, despite the fact that the final results may be less than perfectly natural.

But clinical trials have begun on a new type of implant called, appropriately, the Ideal Implant. Ideal Implants utilize saline but due to superior engineering they offer the cosmetic benefits of silicone. Women may be soon be able to look forward to cosmetically perfect results without health concerns.

Unlike the saline filled implants currently being used, Ideal Implants consist of multiple chambers formed by nesting shells of increasing size. The shells are perforated in such a way as to control the way saline moves within the implant, resulting in an effect closer to nature. An outer implant wall which fits the contours of the interior chest wall works at reducing the possibility of skin wrinkling at the sides of the implant, a common complaint with traditional saline implants.
